about tim o’ryan
Tim has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology Sydney and a Master of Laws from Sydney University (during which Tim received a High Distinction in Advanced Obligations and Remedies at Cambridge University). Tim also holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in English Literature from the Australian Catholic University and wrote his honors thesis on Shakespeare’s sonnets.
In 2009, Tim moved to California from Australia when he was accepted for a judicial externship under Justice Eileen C. Moore on the California Court of Appeal. Before passing the California Bar Exams, Tim was a legal assistant to Jack Earley, one of California’s most renowned criminal defense attorneys.
Tim is admitted to practice law in both California and New South Wales, Australia.

Tim has worked at top tier international law firms in the United States and Australia, including Herbert Smith Freehills in Sydney. Tim represented major corporations, banks and insurance companies in complex litigation, regulatory investigations, disputed insurance claims, and corporate compliance matters.
Tim was a volunteer lawyer at the Redfern Legal Centre, a clinic providing free legal services to indigent residents of the inner city of Sydney. Tim was the coach of the mock trial team at Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles and has an extensive pro bono practice for indigent clients and charitable organizations. Tim currently volunteers with the Hollywood Food Coalition, providing meals to the unhoused residents of Los Angeles.
Tim is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Santa Monica Bar Association, the International Lawyers Surfing Association, and various professional and political organizations promoting Australian business interests in America.
When Tim is not working, he can be found cheering for the Seattle Seahawks, playing touch rugby on the beach in Santa Monica, or hiking with his rescue puppy Eggs in the Malibu mountains.
